Canford Bottom Works Could Delay Emergency Response
To combat this Dorset Fire and Rescue Service are offering free home safety checks, providing an expert service to identify and prevent fire risks in the home. Graham Kewley, station commander at Ferndown Fire Station, said, "We provide a free home safety check to all those in our risk groups. Our aim is to visit as many premises as possible to ensure they are safe from fire, especially during the roadwork period when it might take us a little longer to get to you."
In 2011 the Dorset Fire and Rescue Service dealt with 439 accidental fires in the home and these could have been avoided if people were more aware of basic fire safety in their homes and were advised on how to spot potential fire hazards. And of course it goes without say people should already have installed smoke detectors and check them regularly once a month, changing batteries if necessary.
This is a brilliant service and I urge everyone to ring up and enquire about it.
