This week is National Apprenticeships Week and thousands of students and employers will be considering the advantages of apprenticeships in the modern job market.

There are two free events being held this week for employers, young people and their families to find out about the opportunities offered by apprenticeships.

The first is happening today at Merley House, Wimborne and consists of an exhibition for potential apprentices - head along between 3pm and 6.30pm

The second is on Thursday (14th March 2013) at Kingston Maurward near Dorchester and that comprises a breakfast event for employers (7.30am to 9am) and the exhibition for Apprentices from 3pm to 6.30pm.

Many schools in Dorset are also taking part in events throughout the week.

Gordon Page, Chair of the Dorset Local Enterprise Partnership, says:"Apprentices can make businesses more competitive and provide them with the skilled workers that they need for the future.

"Being an apprentice is also a great option for young people – it allows them to earn a salary while gaining work related qualifications and is the pathway to many exciting opportunities."

Jodi Fair, Head of National Apprenticeship Service South Central, said:

"Apprentices have a major part to play in the future of our local economy and the skills they bring can help businesses to develop, be successful and grow."

Local businesses, have you taken on any apprentices? Or have any of our readers been apprentices? We'd be interested to hear your experiences, please comment below...
