Drunken Man Becomes Trapped After Trying To Scale Wimborne Minster

In the early hours of Sunday 10th July a drunken man in his twenties decided to climb Wimborne Minster on his way home. But the prank backfired when he fell through the roof and got trapped, resulting in the police and fire service being called to attend the incident. Although the man wasn't hurt the damage to the Minster could run to a four-figure sum.

The offender returned later on the Sunday, apologised and offered to pay for the damage. Perhaps he realised he might be arrested and charged with criminal damage and decided to apologise to save his own neck? An apology is always welcome when you've done wrong, but the man shouldn't have been up there causing the damage in the first place. If he'd show a little more restraint with his drinking he wouldn't have found himself in that situation to begin with.

Anyone can show remorse after an act of stupidity like this, but it's not just a matter of paying for repairs. What the young man hasn't taken into consideration here is the cost of the police and the firemen attending the scene to rescue him, and I'm not just talking about the financial cost here either. What if the firemen had been needed to attend a domestic fire where a family were trapped in their home, or the police were needed to race to a serious assault taking place? This young man's stupidity could have cost someone their life while the emergency services were dealing with him. Perhaps from now on he'll think twice before drinking so much and attempting such stupid pranks.
