The Town Farm Workshop community at Sixpenny Handley, Dorset, is bottling up a treat ahead of this year's festive season.

Members have been making festive garlic and chilli infused olive oil for their Christmas shopping evening on November 21.

It is the first of a number of sessions at Sixpenny Handley village hall that will include cake baking and decorating and biscuit making.

Helen Ritson, team leader for the workshop for people with learning disabilities, run by independent care group Regard, said: "It's a wonderful new departure for us.

"We have no cooking facilities of our own at the workshops and are delighted we're now able to use the fully equipped kitchen at the hall.

"Our Christmas shopping evening is a big event in our calendar and we're starting early to make sure everything's ready for the big night.

"We've created a whole range of affordable gift ideas and stocking fillers which we think will go down an absolute treat."

The event, which will take place at the workshops from 4.30 til 9.30, will also include art and crafts made at the centre in Dean Lane.

Handwoven bags, scarves and cushions, handmade ceramics, jewellery, cards and wrapping paper and cakes and biscuits will all be on sale.

A £1 entry includes a free glass of mulled wine and a mince pie. There will also be live music.

The Town Farm Workshop is a 36-strong team, many of whom work five days a week, based in two units on the site.

The Craft and Enterprise workshop provides craft, drama, sensory, IT, and photography sessions, and literary classes.

Meanwhile, the Pottery and Weaving unit houses a number of looms and a ceramics workshop and kiln.

The team sells its handmade pottery and textiles in the Workshop shop and at craft markets and festivals across the country.

All items are labelled with the creator's name.
