The residents of Merley are overjoyed at the return of a bus service running along Sopwith Crescent linking them with Wimborne and Bournemouth, after a previous company pulled out of the area five years ago, leaving them with no where to go.

Yellow Buses launched their new 4d service, which travels the length of Sopworth Crescent on an hourly basis, a few weeks ago. The villagers were so delighted they turned out in large numbers to help give the new service the best possible start. This is not really surprising, as after the loss of the previous service residents of Merely felt stranded by public transport, prompting them in to protests, including a petition, all sadly to no effect. Residents, especially the elderly, felt very isolated, cut off and let down by public transport in general.

But now that is all behind them, as they take full advantage of this already popular daytime hourly service running from Monday to Saturday every week. Councillor David Brown has also been quoted in the local press as being "overjoyed" at the introduction of the 4d Yellow Bus service, while Councillor Peter Maiden described it as "absolutely fantastic."

Let's hope route 4d continues to be popular (as I'm sure it will) and doesn't get withdrawn.

From the queues I see at the bus stops it looks to be very popular indeed.

At last! There are plenty of people living in Merley who rely on public transport - and they can't all walk a mile or more carting their shopping home.

Hope this service is a success.
