Plans have been submitted to East Dorset District Council by developer Charles Church, for 186 homes on the old Flight Refuelling site in Brook Road, next to the River Stour.

Forty percent of the 116 houses and 70 flats will be set aside for much needed affordable housing through Spectrum Housing Group. The existing office buildings and twelve trees behind the Leigh Park Estate will need to be demolished to make way for the development, which will include two children's play areas.

The site has been used for industrial purposes for over fifty-years and is on the flood plain, but the development will be kept back from the flood line according to the design statement.

So when will the work start? Although I think the development will be good for the area we will already be putting up with the traffic chaos caused by the Canford Bottom Roundabout works and The Squares facelift. The amount of traffic generated by such a development will be astronomical and will add to the chaos we'll all be experiencing over the next nine months. Let's hope the construction starts after next summer.

A decision on the plans for the Brook Road development will be made in either October or November.
