Seven Weeks Of Closures For Canford Bottom Roundabout
Funny, I seem to remember they weren't going to shut the roads during the day only doing so at night to reduce disruption. Now we're being told all four local roads are being closed between Friday the 17th February and Thursday the 8th March. Ham Lane and Wimborne Road West (on the Ferndown side) will close from the 2nd of February, with the Canford Bottom Road and Wimborne Road West into Wimborne off limits until the 23rd March…so what's changed?
The A31 will also be closed, but only between the hours of 8.30pm – 6am Monday to Thursday and 11pm – 6am on Fridays. Dates for the A31 closure will be announced closer to the time.
The reason for these closures is down to the diverting of a major sewer, which will require deep trenches, and bringing the level of the existing road around the roundabout to the same as the new dual carriageway section through the middle of the island. But how are these closures going to effect local businesses, especially the smaller ones?
The road closures are going mean diversions of several miles and with petrol prices still rising local businesses' overheads are going to increase dramatically. If the roundabout isn't causing chaos now, it will be come the 2nd of February.
With the roundabout closures and the Square revamp I would not be surprised if people start to avoid Wimborne.
