There has always been a problem for adults wishing to change career and work in the building industry, as they need site experience to progress with their qualifications, but can't get site experience without the relevant qualifications. It's a vicious circle that has proved very hard to break, which puts off many adults from changing careers in later life. But in an uncertain economic climate where people are facing wage reductions, redundancies, with good, well paid jobs few and far between, and those that are advertised attract hundreds of applicants, more and more adults are looking to retrain in new areas in an attempt to still make a decent living.
It's great to see a company like Harry J Palmers actively welcoming students of all ages onto its sites giving them the opportunity to produce evidence of their skills in a real industry environment.
The company's head of construction John Boast said, "In these difficult times we are extremely pleased to be able to assist people to retain and gain relevant experience to allow them to go on and make real careers for themselves."
