It's the Queen's diamond jubilee this year and I was wondering if anyone had any plans for celebrating the occasion, or has heard of any and would like to mention them here?

I have very vivid memories of the silver jubilee in 1977 as an eight-year-old living in Leicestershire. I remember there was a bigger sense of community back then more so than there appears to be now. A parade with floats was organised and I was on a float with the theme 'the old woman who lived in a shoe.' One of the dads dressed up as the old woman, including hobnail boots, a curly wig and makeup and us kids packed out the float.

I also remember a long table in the middle of the road, which all the kids sat down at and were treated to a fantastic feast of jelly, ice cream and biscuits. I'm sure there were sandwiches as well, but I can only remember stuffing my face with the jelly.

The men later played football on our front lawn as the sun went down and I remember feeling very privileged to be allowed to play with them. It was the highlight of the day for me.

So what is being planned in Wimborne for the diamond jubilee?
