Wimborne Residents Asked Not To Judge The Square Until It’s Finished
Heavy criticism has been levelled at the £410,000 project and the disruption it will cause, with some, like resident of 40 years Barbara Wathen, convinced it will actually kill off business in the town for good.
The Town Council and East Dorset Council are keen to push the message that the town is open for business as usual and Mayor Cllr Robin Cook has said, "The benefits will enhance the centre of the town – there's no doubt about it. I think it's like the Waitrose syndrome, we never thought we'd get something as lovely as we have now."
There is an uncertainty about change which is very understandable when there is so much change and disruption going on at the moment, what with the Square facelift, the Canford Bottom Roundabout upgrade for the Olympics, the introduction of Wetherspoons and more recently the accident on Julian's Bridge which caused it to close for a few days. I have heard friends complain about the condition of the Square in the past, but I think we have to wait for the work to be completed, in time for the Folk Festival, before we can really judge it.

I'm sure the Wimborne In Bloom team will do their usual great job and make the Square look fantastic once it's finished.

ReportI agree that something natural should be at the heart of the square and hope that the Wimborne in bloom team can make use of the additional blank canvas when they consider the dispalys for this year.

ReportI'm not convinced. I really want to like it though so will reserve judgement. Sorry to keep banging on about the tree; I just think its so important to have something natural in the centre of it all! :)

ReportEven with the works going on you can clearly see the improvements the square was a mess before and anything will be better.

ReportOr maybe the work would have damaged the existing roots and they decided it was easier to replace it. Either way a new tree makes more oxygen and uses more carbon dioxide.
