Around 200 campaigners from Wimborne, Colehill and West Parley have staged a protest march ahead of the East Dorset District Council's vote on its core strategy.
The campaigners, calling themselves the Keep West Parley Green residents group, carried a coffin heralding the 'death of democracy' to the counicl offices at Furzehill. The group claims that plans to build 2,000 new homes on green belt land has been pushed through undemocratically.
The conservative-run council insists that there has been 40 weeks of public consultations and approved the core strategy which it says protects over 99% of green belt land. The campaigners claim that the consultation forms did not provide enough space for objections and the venues had been undersized.

Too many NIMBY's about. There is a shortage of housing and we need to build more. Nobody wants it next to them....well tough, someone has to and if you live next to an empty space then it is more likely. Inflated house prices need to come down much more to stabilise the market and provide housing for young people. I was lucky to but a house when I was 25 and could get something reasonable for 3 times my earnings....no chance now.
But I am one of the older people who have benefitted from this and now have an expensive house. However, I am not a NIMBY and see the need that we MUST build and get prices down. Yes, you pensioners (and I am one too) will see a drop in your equity but you gained from the supply shortage.
Get real people.
