Wimborne Square Entertainment

I was thrilled to see the new look Square being used to entertain shoppers and their children on Saturday when I popped into town to get my haircut. Gathered around the benches outside Lloyds several children were sat with their parents enjoying a magic show and from what I could see it was going down a storm.

It's good to see the Square being used as promised and drawing people into the town. I only hope this is going to be a regular thing and not something just for the summer months. Perhaps an open fronted marquee for the less favourable weather would be an idea.

What I am concerned about though is the Square being used constantly by charities for collections. The RNLI were the latest to use the Square for a collection, but I worry too many charities using it will have the opposite effect the area was intended for. Don't get me wrong, I'm not against charities using it altogether I just think they should only be allowed to do so every so often. We don't want people avoiding the Square, concerned they're going to be constantly bombarded for donations.

I also had a quick look on the Wimborne Town Council website this morning to see if I could find a timetable of acts and entertainment in the Square. I couldn't find one. A well-publicised list would be a great idea.

Great way to keep the kids entertained when you go shopping. Would be nice if they published a timetable of events. Thought there might be one on the BID website, but can't get on to it.
