Wimborne Town Crier Composes Special 'CRY' To Mark New Bus Route

WIMBORNE Town Crier Chris Brown composed a special 'cry' to mark the launch of a new service by Yellow Buses.

Mayor Cllr Robin Cook joined business leaders, representatives of Wimborne in Bloom and the bus company to celebrate the Yellow's new route 4d. The new Monday to Saturday daytime hourly service will link Wimborne and Bournemouth beginning on Monday October 24.

Wimborne Militia also took part in the launch ceremony with Serjant Mellvin Gudger carrying – and firing - a musket 'to protect this Yellow Buses conveyance from nefarious stagecoaches.'

Shoppers and passers-by in the town's main Square were treated to the six stanza cry, which began with the traditional 'Oyez, Oyez, Oyez' and ended with 'God Save The Queen.'

The cry included the verse:

'We give thanks to Yellow Buses for their foresight in this endeavour

Making our fair town of Wimborne more accessible than ever.'

Welcoming the new service Wimborne Mayor Cllr Robin Cook thanked Yellow Buses for giving the historic Minster town "a vote of confidence."

He added: "This is another plus point for Wimborne and will give the people of Bournemouth and surrounding area the opportunity to see the delights our progressive town has to offer."

Jenni Wilkinson, Yellow Buses' Head of Marketing, said it was the first time that a special town cry had been composed to mark the launch of a new route by the Yellows. "The welcome we've received from the people of Wimborne and surrounding area to the announcement of our new 4d service has been quite overwhelming. It augers well for the launch of the route," she added.

Other guests at the launch ceremony included Malcolm Angel, President of Wimborne Chamber of Trade; Martin Tidd, a Director of Wimborne BID and Anthony Oliver MBE, Chairman of Wimborne in Bloom.

The 4d will follow a route which includes Wimborne Square, Merley,

Canford Park Arena, Bearwood, Bear Cross, Kinson, Moordown, Winton, Bournemouth railway station and Bournemouth Square.
