Is Wimborne's New Pub The Man In The Wall Any Good?

You can't say they haven't saved an old building from rotting away to nothing, but is Wimborne's new pub The Man In The Wall actually any good?

I visited it last Sunday and I have to say it did appear to be very popular, especially with families, and everyone I've spoken to say it's been full to bursting when they have gone as well. My biggest bugbear with most Wimborne pubs is in my opinion they don't really cater for families. They may say they do, but it's always annoying to try and squeeze a push chair past diners, or people drinking at tables, getting looks of annoyance from the serious drinkers when your son starts singing the theme to Justin's House at the top of his voice. In The Man In The Wall we actually felt welcome as a family.

The positives: It's got plenty of space, lots of different types of seating and a long bar so lots of customers can be served at the same time. There is also a large beer garden out the back and a car park and best of all the food and drink are cheap.

The negatives: These are really just niggles and nothing very serious. The car park is tiny and the beer garden will no doubt be full of smokers during the summer and you'll be lucky to get a seat out there. The front steps are a bit of a problem for pushchairs and the front doors are narrow, both of which need to be opened to get a pushchair through. If you're bringing a pushchair I suggest entering via the back door.

I have to say I was initially against Wetherspoons coming to Wimborne, but I've been won over. I think The Man In The Wall is actually a very nice place for families to go and drink and eat. I can see it continuing to be very popular indeed.

Not a big fan of Weatherspoons pubs and hate too see one in Wimborne really BUT I haven't given it a try and I'm always pleased to see pram friendly places in town.

I am not the biggest fan of Weatherspoon pubs but visited last week and thought this was one its best examples. The food was nothing special but it didn't cost the earth and the beer was reasonable in price (for 2012!). A real effort has been made with the interior and it was very welcoming. Not sure I'd pay it a visit at 10pm on a Friday night though!
