Did anyone seriously think that Waitrose would help the independent traders in Wimborne? It was obvious from the start of the developement that the traffic bottle-neck was going to be a problem, esp on market days. It also seemed obvious to me that people would do all their grocery shopping at Waitrose, cause traffic chaos and then go home. Why bother with shopping in Wimborne? Alright , Waitrose is a high class, expensive super market, but did it need to be in the centre of the town? Surely it would have made more sense to site it on Leigh Road, where the traffic could have been more easily managed, and Wimborne could have maitained its unique and peaceful character? It is a typical example of the fact that "every man has his price" !!!
