Do you realise that all the pubs with bands, and Party in the Paddock contribute nothing to Wimborne Folk Festival? The actual festival is based around the Allendale Centre with dancing displays through the town. If you want the festival to happen in the future you need to go to the events at the Allendale, buy tickets, buy programmes and join in the official Wimborne Folk festival events. Everyone else is cashing in on visitors brought to the town by the festival. A lot of effort goes into organising the festival, and a lot of expense in bringing great folk acts to the Allendale Centre. Local traders would be the first to complain if the festival ceases as it attracts many visitors to the town. Support the festival, not just the pubs and their bands.
While I agree wholeheartedly with Folkylady, the White Hart this year is advertising their events over the weekend as the Folk Festival Fringe event and the Party in the Paddock has never claimed to be part of the folk festival but an enhancement to it.
The whole thing really needs a re-think and possibly moved to Canford Arena. It is large enough there to accommodate the folk festival with all its "enhancements" and "fringes"
- More space for performers to perform in.
- More room for people to watch rather than being cramped up in the square or getting in the way of people trying to get on with normal daily chores while watching on pavements.
- No road closures in Wimborne.
- Different band stages / tents the pubs could quite easily incorporate a bar or two with this
- Bigger campsite with better facilities.
- More space for family orientated attractions.
- Trouble makers can be controlled and evicted from the site more easily.
If the core folk festival organisers got together with all the other event holders and thought about it properly, this could be achievable rather than bickering about who is and who is not officially connected to the Folk Festival.
