Wimborne Schools Escape Cuts

Wimborne schools not affected by the Government’s school building cuts.

Stand by for a little bit of politics. You have been warned.

This news probably comes as a big relief to Queen Elizabeth School with its £50.6million budget. But then again I suppose they wouldn’t cut a budget for a building already in progress.... or would they? You just can’t tell what’s going to happen next in these hard times.

Looking at the list of planned cuts for schools it appears to be quite drastic, with only a handful of schools escaping the cuts countrywide. The new Con-LibDem coalition government said it would not increase child poverty, but isn’t a three year freeze on child benefit and school building’s cuts doing exactly that? Placing  a freeze on child benefit when prices have gone up, and halting any improvements in facilities schools had planned, is a backward step. So it turns out the pupils at QE School are very lucky indeed. They’ll get their new buildings, their new facilities, creating a better learning environment for them to blossom in.

We need to invest in our children’s education if we want to see them grow and succeed. What we don’t want is a situation where teachers find there are not the facilities they need to give the children a quality education. Is the government already failing in its promise? What do you think about these cuts?

So Wimborne escaped, but a couple of schools in Poole were not so lucky. It was nice to know the government got it right first time....
