Land deal helps to bring much needed affordable housing to Wimborne.

Developer Charles Church is hoping to build 186 new homes on the old Cobham aerospace company site on Brook Road, 40% of which will be affordable housing. This is good news for first time buyers wishing to move to the town, the town’s unemployed as hundreds of jobs will be created, and also good for the existing residents as no green land will be eaten up by the development.

But how will Leigh Road and Brook Road handle the increased traffic created by 186 new homes? With an average of two cars per household that will be an increase of 372 vehicles on our roads already suffering with the increased traffic caused by Waitrose. We’ve all experienced the long queues down the length of Leigh Road during rush hour in the recent months and the quite often ridiculously slow traffic on the Wimborne bypass, so how can our roads cope with the extra vehicles bearing in mind the 2012 Olympics? Let’s hope the council has plans to improve the roads and help cut down on the amount of traffic or it could be a disaster. It’s something they really need to address when granting planning permission for the estate.

Having said that I am personally pleased to see so many new houses coming to the area and welcome the advantages it will lend to our town and its residents.
