School Placement Maddness For Sturminster Marshall Mother

Vicky Borrett, a divorced mother of two living in Sturminster Marshall, has been forced to home school her five-year-old child after failing to find a suitable local school place for him. In December Dorset County Council agreed to visit Vicky to offer guidance on home schooling, but failed to turn up until the 1st March. Since then Dorset County Council have offered the child a place at Bere Regis First School eleven miles away from Sturminster Marshall.

Sturminster Marshall: Home schooling.
It’s bad enough that DCC left Miss Borrett without support for over two months before they were able to send anyone out to offer her help and advice on how to home school her son, but to expect a five-year-old to travel eleven miles to and from school everyday is just plain madness. Eleven miles might be just down the road for an adult, but it’s a world away for a five-year-old. Who knows what DCC were thinking, or even if they were, when they offered that school place.
Vicky even wants to go back to work, but can’t do so because she’s stuck at home teaching her son. All this is costing the taxpayer a lot of money. The simple answer here, and the most sensible thing to do, is to help Vicky out and give her son a place at a local school, one he doesn’t have to go on an epic journey to.

I agree, if they can't sort out one simple school place it's time to get someone in who can do the job!

ReportWhat utter stupidity from Dorset County Council. I bet it takes them several more months to come up with an equally stupid solution.
