Wetherspoon To Come To Wimborne

J D Wetherspoons to move into old Conservative Club in Wimborne’s West Borough.

How many pubs do we have in Wimborne? Some would say too many, I would say just enough. Let’s put it this way we are lucky to have such a wide range of places to go to eat and drink in our town, so do we really need another one?

Christchurch recently had the same problem and eventually managed to keep J D Wetherspoons out of their town. Now they want to come to us. We’ve already had Waitrose make its home in the centre of town, helping to lose a little bit of that traditional market town feel and turning it into something more commercial, but do we actually want to go further down this road? The majority of pubs in the town are local independently owned businesses and a chain known for it’s cheap food and drink is not really in keeping with that image.

A traditional market town is what attracts outsiders, why should they come to a place that is rapidly becoming commercial and a carbon copy of any other town centre to be found in the country? Should we fight to keep our uniqueness, or should we just roll over and let the town become commercialised?

Your thoughts please?

I'm only there for the beer! Wetherspoons are great for good beer at reasonable prices. The food, though, has taken a massive downturn in recent years. But if Wimborne has the opportunity for a Spoons, then I say welcome it with open arms. It IS the 21st century.

I have got a weakness for the Wetherspoons nachos and curries. It's cheap and cheerful and you can't argue with that! If you don't like it, stay away, no-one is forcing you to go in there!

yeah i think it will be great! full english breackfast for a reasonable price and a pint that we can all afford! hopefully the rest of the pubs will follow and offer us a pint for under £4 i understand that that some pubs will suffer but why should they why cant they match the price???? its totally rediculous that the people of wimborne disagree with value for money!

I bet they will appeal, and I for one think it would be a shame for Wimborne if a Wetherspoons got its foot in the door. Wimborne is really picturesque. Cheap booze and rubbish food will spoil that image, go home Wetherspoons!

Wetherspoon's plans for a new pub in Wimborne have been turned down due to not providing enough information on how the pub would effect on neighbouring homes.

Wetherspoon's have yet to decide if they will appeal the decision.
