Wimborne Pancake Race Goes Ahead
By DomCar | Sunday, February 27, 2011, 19:06
March the 8th is Shrove Tuesday and while the rest of us will be tucking into our pancakes it will be time for the annual pancake race around the Minster. It starts at 11am outside the main entrance and all competitors should gather by the North Porch by 10.30am. The first race will be run while the pancake bell is rung (ding dong).

Wimborne Pancake Race Tuesday 8th March
There are plenty of categories this year so everyone can get involved, including groups and individuals, as well as the young, old, men and women. And get this, there will be two glittering trophies to be won as well as some prize money (£25) for the winner of the over 18 and under 18 races. What larks!
Hmm, not sure the health and safety nuts are going to agree with people running around on the Minster flagstones though, especially if it’s been raining. Lets hope the daft onions stay at home because they think backing their cars out of a wet driveway could end in a major catastrophe and the end of the world as we know it. Common sense is what we want. Good old-fashioned fun. So what if someone slips up and cracks their head open on the concrete, at least they’ll have had fun doing it.
And remember kiddies, it’s not the winning that counts, it’s the humiliation of your opponents as they see you cross the line miles ahead of them. Have fun.
