Wimborne residents are already known to be excellent recyclers and Dorset County Council are now encouraging us to go one step further and get into the composting habit with the introduction of new compost bin offers.

The County Council is working with the District and Borough Councils to persuade local residents to transform uncooked

kitchen and garden waste into nutrient-rich compost for a greener garden.

I began composting a year ago and it find it addictive, not to mention a great way to keep your rubbish down. The councils have teamed up with bin manufacturer Straight PLC

to provide a range of compost bins, kitchen caddies and water butts at reduced prices.

I was amazed when I started composting at the number of things you can put in your bins, food waste (although best to avoid composting meat scraps, fatty food waste, milk product and bones), egg shells, shredded paper, straw, hay, leaves and undiseased plants..and much more.

Never compost dog or cat waste or chemically treated products.

The two most popular compost bins are priced at £14 and £17 respectively with a £5 delivery cost to be added. To place an order call 0844 5714444.The offer is available  until 31 March 2011.
