Sir William Hanham has submitted an application to East Dorset District Council for a licence enabling him to hold more events in the gardens of Deans Court, indeed this year dates have already been agreed for a second Food Festival in September.

He is hoping to increase events and include weddings and exhibitions on the land. Although the licence applied for is broad Sir William has made it clear that his intentions do not include turning the land into a local party haunt but this has done nothing to allay concerns of nearby residents many of who are less than pleased about the application and one town councillor who lives near to the land has contacted locals requesting that they object to the plan. His concerns seem to centre around the potential for public nuisance, especially as if the licence is granted it would include late night events and alcohol until the early hours of the morning.
Sir William has issued assurances however and feels he is trying to help the town through what has been a difficult time commercially and the type of events he is considering will not attract unruly revellers.
A decision is due to be made at the end of April .
