Local Councillor To Run London Marathon 25th April 2010

This years Virgin London Marathon is just 11 days away and after 6 years of applying for the race local councillor Andy Hampton has at last been accepted to run the race.

Andy, 40, runs Morgan Hampton Estate agents in Wimborne. He hopes to raise more than £1,000 for two local charities who do so much to enhance the town-  Dreamboats and Wimborne in Bloom.

According to the race organisers, it is now the largest annual fund raising event in the world with the 2006 participants raising over £41.5 million for charity, bringing the total amount raised for charity by runners, to a grand total of £315 million.

Andy is hoping for a respectable 4 hour time and has found training over the winter months an ardous task.

A total of 746,635 runners have completed the London Marathon since it began in 1981. I’d love to hear from any Wimborne folk who are in that number. Do you know somebody local who has taken part?
