What will 2011 bring Wimborne Town?
-
Wimborne 2011
It looks like the hard economic times we are experiencing will continue, as evidenced by the recent closure of the long running and established Wimborne Sports. Will the new shops opening in the town help to stabilise the situation, or will they too fall victim to these hard times?
Then there’s the public enquiry for the Wimborne Town Green to be conducted; what will be the outcome of that? Will the Keep Wimborne Town Green campaigners win out or will Waitrose be allowed to stay? To be truthful it’s hard one to call with support for both sides. I would personally like to see Waitrose removed from Wimborne even though my wife is all for the shop and has even been there a few times. I think this will be the hardest fought battle in the New Year.
Will the planned updating of the Canford Bottom roundabout for the 2012 Olympics finally get under way, and will it cause more traffic problems than it is designed to solve? If the updating goes ahead then the Wimborne bypass and the roundabouts at the other end also need to be looked in to, or it will end up in one giant mess.
Comments
It would be logical if those requesting the public enquiry were now to withdraw it.

ReportAs I understand it, after discussing the issue with solicitor/barrister friends of mine, a public enquiry could not go ahead if there were no legal basis on which to support it, so the Waitrose/Town Green issue is still very much open until after the public enquiry... and that's only if it doesn't go to appeal. Theoretically this thing could drag on for years and probably will.

ReportPlease can we forget this knock Waitrose down/Town Green thing - it has no legal basis. Please can we move on!

ReportI think it will be interesting times. Personally, I find it hard to believe Waitrose will not be allowed to stay. Money is money, after all.
