The Bank Holiday weekend looked like it was off to a bad start for one Wimborne Pub /restaurant. Fire broke out at The Olive Branch on West Borough just before ten thirty on Friday morning but thanks to the quick thinking customer who discovered the fire in the ladies toilet and the prompt response from firefighters of Wimborne and surrounding areas the fire was quickly contained within minutes.

It appears it could so easily have been a repeat of last years devastating fire in Wimborne that has gutted the premises of a number of businesses  including for Hall and Woodhouse their Albion Pub. The Olive Branch is a sister pub to the Albion and the fire is believed to have been caused by an electrical fault secondary to recent refurbishment work. Last year’s fire was also believed to be due to electricity.

Thankfully the Olive Branch and her staff and customers are all fine and the pub has reopened for business as usual.

In light of the tragic loss of two Dorset fire fighters in recent weeks perhaps an appropriate time to thank our crews for all they do and to pay our respects to their fallen colleagues.
