WIMBORNE Town will go into Saturday's Wessex Premier match with Alton Town at Cuthbury seeking to end a mini-slump which has seen them lose their last two league games. The latest reversal was a 3-1 home defeat to Romsey Town, despite the Magpies taking a first minute lead through top scorer Scott Joyce. Despite the loss, Wimborne held on to fourth spot in the table, but they remain 14 points shy of leaders Poole Town who have played three games more. Meanwhile, Wimborne have re-signed former Cuthbury hero Gareth Barnes. Barnes first signed for Wimborne in 1999 and was a major factor, along with current assistant manager Darren Powell, in the Magpies winning the Wessex League and Cup double in 1999-00. Barnes previously made 251 appearances for the Magpies, scoring 151 goals.
